Archbishop Charles Scicluna has appointed Mons. Stefan Bonanno as the Archdiocese’s new delegate for religious broadcasting. In this role, Mgr Bonanno will be responsible for all religious broadcasts on television and radio by the Archdiocese of Malta.

Mgr Bonanno was born in Floriana on 18 December 1965, and has produced over 120 television programmes, winning three Malta Television Awards in the process.

He had served as Chairman of the company “Media Centre” from 2012 until 2017; Media Centre has produced several socio-religious programmes. The priest also played a pivotal role in the educational field of media on a national level.

In March 2020, Mgr Bonanno was given the responsibility to oversee the daily mass broadcasts of the Archbishop’s Curia and of several parishes on Sundays, all year round. He has held this duty up until today.

He began his studies in the field of electronics at the Fellinberg Training Centre, though he first graduated via a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Social Communication studies and followed this up with a Licentiate in Pastoral Theology.

Mgr Bonanno received his priestly formation at the Seminary of the Archbishop of Virtue as well as at the Faculty of Theology at the University of Malta.

He was ordained a priest on 8 July 1994 and has previously served as deputy chaplain to the Parish of Marija Immakulata in Bormla (1994-1997) and as archpriest of the Parish of San Lawrenz in Birgu (1997-2001).

He furthered his studies in Gregoriana, Rome, and practised in the field of television directing in San Jose, California, USA.
