An elderly man was critically hurt when he was hit by a car in Birkirkara on Wednesday afternoon, the police said.

The man, aged 77 of Birkirkara, was hit by a Toyota Corsa driven by a 44-year-old man of Msida.

The man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The accident happened in the Birkilara by-pass at 5.10pm.

Magistrate Antoine Agius Bonnici is leading an inquiry.
