Updated: Woman dies, another seriously injured, after motorbike crashes into pole in Rabat

A woman has died and another was seriously injured on Tuesday evening when the bike they were on crashed into a pole, the police said.

The accident took place in Tabija Street, Rabat, at 10.45pm. 

The police said that officers who were called to the scene found the two women on the ground, a few metres away from the bike.

The police said that the bike was being driven by a 31-year-old woman from Colombia, resident in Marsascala, who had another Colombian woman, aged 33, and resident in Mtarfa, riding pillion.

One of the women, the 33-year-old, was certified dead on site. She was later identified as Cristi Robles (photo above).

The other woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Magistrate Joseph Mifsud is leading an inquiry.

This was the third road fatality of the day.

In the morning, a 40-year-old India man died when the van he was driving was involved in a collision with a truck in Zebbug.

In the afternoon, a 77-year-old woman died when she was hit by a truck in Qormi.
