Three men were arrested on drug trafficking charges as police patrolled St Julian’s this weekend.

The arrests were made between Friday and Saturday after patrols in a number of streets in St Julian’s, and were all separate from each other.

Those arrested were a 50-year-old man from Eritrea, a 32-year-old man from Mali, and a 25-year-old man from India.  They were found to be in possession of substances thought to be cocaine, cannabis, and MDMA.

One of the men who was arrested was apprehended after he approached a plain-clothes police officer and offered to sell them drugs, while another one tried to escape from police custody, but was held.

The trio are being held at the police lock-up in Floriana and are expected to be formally charged before Magistrate Jean Paul Grech on Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, five other people were stopped by police and are being investigated for drug possession and in relation to immigration issues.

Police did not provide details about these individuals, but said that investigations are ongoing.
