Minister for Health and Active Aging, Jo Etienne Abela, inaugurated a new MRI machine at the Gozo General Hospital, with an investment of €3 million.
Minister Abela stated that through this investment, the installation of the new 3.0 Tesla MRI machine at the Gozo General Hospital was completed, "which is the most advanced MRI machine available in the country." He mentioned that from March until now, around 2,700 MRIs have been conducted using the portable MRI machine, with approximately 70% of them being for Gozitan patients.
Minister Abela said that through continuous efforts over the past 6 months, the necessary extension was made to build the space for this machine. He emphasized that this machine will improve the radiology service offered in Gozo, as it is equipped with the latest technology, allowing for detailed diagnoses in various parts of the body, as well as specialized MRIs, including brain, heart, prostate, spine, liver, and pancreas MRIs. This machine will also help in detecting tumors at advanced stages.
