Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri said that between September 2023 and August 2024, the police carried out 1,843 road checks covering every locality in Malta and Gozo.
PN MP Darren Carabott asked a parliamentary question to Camilleri, requesting information as to how many road blocks there were in the past year, in which localities they took place, and how many vehicles were stopped for any illegalities found in such road blocks.
Camilleri said that between September 2023 and August 2024, the Police conducted 1,843 road checks.
"These road checks covered practically every locality in Malta and Gozo and were carried out by Police from each district, community officers, as well as from other sections of the force," Camilleri said.
He said that at times, this work is also done in collaboration with other agencies with an enforcement role.
Camilleri said that during these road checks, thousands of vehicles were stopped, resulting in the issuance of several citations for contraventions when identified, as well as other citations for offenses encountered by police officers during these checks.
"Both the citations and contraventions were mainly related to violations of motor vehicle regulations and some breaches of other laws," Camilleri said.
