The Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) is thrilled to announce that Visit Malta has secured two prestigious UK awards, reinforcing its status as a top travel destination. Visit Malta was awarded Gold for "Most Desirable Island (Europe)" at the 23rd Annual Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards, and additionally won the "Aspire Inclusive Initiative of the Year Award" for its dedication to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in tourism.
The Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards, presented on 6 November at London's Tate Modern, honoured standout travel destinations and companies for their commitment to exceptional travel experiences. Hosted by acclaimed comedian and travel presenter Jack Whitehall, the event attracted hundreds of esteemed travel leaders and recognised destinations across 22 categories. Following a record-breaking 3.5 million votes from 168,000 readers, Malta emerged as the "Most Desirable Island (Europe)," surpassing Ireland and Madeira, which claimed Silver and Bronze, respectively.

"This recognition from Wanderlust underscores Malta's irresistible appeal and the unforgettable experiences it offers every visitor," said Tolene van der Merwe, MTA's Director for the UK and Ireland. "We are honoured to see Malta celebrated as Europe's most desirable island by such an engaged audience of travel enthusiasts."

In addition to this honour, Visit Malta was awarded the Aspire Inclusive Initiative of the Year Award on 9 October in Manchester, United Kingdom, in recognition of its leadership in promoting inclusivity and accessibility. The award celebrates Visit Malta's efforts to make the destination welcoming to all, including its sponsorship of the Icons of Inclusion event, the successful hosting of EuroPride 2023, and its commitment to enhancing accessibility for visitors of all abilities.
"This double recognition reinforces our commitment to both excellence in travel and inclusivity," commented MTA CEO Carlo Micallef. "Winning the Wanderlust Gold Award for Europe's most desirable island and the Aspire Award for inclusivity reflects our dedication to creating a destination that is as inviting as it is inclusive. We are committed to continuing these efforts and providing memorable experiences for every visitor."
Aspire, a leading UK luxury travel media brand, celebrates achievements across the high-end travel sector and connects suppliers and agents specialising in luxury travel. Meanwhile, Wanderlust, the UK's most-read travel magazine, honours excellence and authentic travel experiences, making this year's double accolade an outstanding milestone for Visit Malta.
With these two awards, the Malta Tourism Authority reaffirms its pioneering role in promoting Malta as a premier, inclusive travel destination. The MTA looks forward to building on this success, offering diverse, accessible, and high-quality experiences for all.
