Three kilometres of new asphalt is in the process of being set around Ta’ Qali in a structural investment project which is giving all roads from the roundabout below Mtarfa leading to Ta’ Qali, from Attard to the entrance of Ta’ Qali, and all roads leading to the centre of Ta’ Qali a new surface with a total investment of €4 million, the Parliamentary Secretariat for Public Works said on Thursday.
The refacing of the roads is the second phase of the project, which is currently underway, the Secretariat stated. It said that the first phase of these works consisted of crucial works on new public drinking water systems, a new drainage system, a rainwater management system, new infrastructure for telecommunication cables, as well as the installation of new cables for electricity provision.
These works, the Secretariat said, are being carried out by the Department of Public Works around the Ta’ Qali National Park Area, which it remarked is the largest open and green space in the country.
Parliamentary Secretary Omar Farrugia said that Ta’ Qali is being given the priority it deserves, “Not only with the opening of new spaces and continuous activities in its core, but also in the works of maintenance in the surroundings that lead the public to this area.” He continued that the Ta’ Qali area is being given this deserved attention so that it can continue being a way for Maltese and Gozitan families to spend quality time.
Jason Micallef, the Head of the Ta’ Qali National Park Section, said that the new services provided as well as the new face being given to the roads “complement the greatest regeneration that the Ta’ Qali area has ever seen”.
The Secretariat concluded that during the last year, the Ta’ Qali National Park project underwent a total regeneration with the participation of the Department of Public Works. It continued that in addition to the opening of the concert area, the national park has evolved from an area of 220,000 square metres to an area of 450,000 square metres.
