The government's promise that any association which helps and provides shelter for animals in need of land would receive assistance if suitable land were to be found is not true at all, Nationalist Party MP Janice Abela Chetcuti remarked in a social media post on Thursday.
The PN MP and Animal Welfare Spokesperson questioned when the needs and protection of animals in Malta will be taken seriously in a Facebook post which detailed her visit with Second Chance Horse Rescue. She described the association as a "place full of love unfortunately forgotten by the authorities concerned".
Abela Chetcuti said that Second Chance Horse Rescue has identified places which can provide shelter or land and has sent several letters, but is yet to receive any answer or even confirmation that they have been seen or heard.
"These young volunteers are giving their time, energy, and even their money to help a large amount of horses that would have been either euthanised or abandoned," the MP remarked, as she tagged Prime Minister Robert Abela and Lydia Abela in the post, along with Animal Rights Minister Anton Refalo and Parliamentary Secretary Alicia Bugeja Said.
