The Malta Police Force said in a statement on Monday that 84 drivers were fined for excessive speeding during the first two weeks of the New Year.
Police said that this was part of the Force’s commitment to regular traffic control in order to ensure the safety of all those who use the road.
It said that “hundreds” of vehicles were stopped for checks over the festive period and the first two weeks of January, and a number of fines were issued where there were illegalities.
Particularly, 84 fines were issued for excessive speeding in a number of roads where police inspections took place.
The police said that this exercise is being done not just to enforce traffic regulations but also to improve safety on the streets, particularly in zones which are known for being frequented by speeding cars which can place people’s lives in danger.
