The Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Keith Azzopardi Tanti, and representatives from Aġenzija Żgħażagħ and the European Association of the European Youth Card have launched the European Youth Card campaign.
The European Youth Card, apart from offering several discounts to young people, is a tool that ensures new opportunities for young people and enshrines solidarity amongst youths across Europe.
PS Azzopardi Tanti described the European Youth Card as "a direct investment in the future of our youth."
"This is not just a benefits scheme but it is a means by which we ensure that every young person has the means to dream bigger, achieve more, and contribute to society," he said.
There are over 10,000 European Youth Card holders in Malta and over 7 million in total across Europe.
As part of the initiative, young people in Malta will be able to enjoy more than 22,000 discounts in 42 countries, covering various aspects of life such as education, health, travel, and entertainment.
Azzopardi Tanti encouraged all youths to make the most of this initiative.
"This is a tool for you to explore, grow, and succeed," he said, "Your energy and creativity are essential to building a better Europe and a stronger future."
The CEO of Aġenzija Żgħażagħ, Miriam Teuma, said that this initiative shows the potential of young people to make a real difference.
"The aim of the European Youth Card is not only to offer benefits but to create new opportunities. This is a tool that helps every young person explore his or her full potential," the chief executive said.
The Director of the European Youth Card Association, Manel Sánchez, stated that the European Youth Card not only facilitates mobility by making travel more accessible, but it also supports educational programmes, training schemes, and more.
"This is a tool that creates opportunities and helps individuals to maximize their potential. Every benefit is a step towards a more inclusive society," he said.
The European Youth Card is available digitally as a free mobile application entitled "myEYC" which youths can install and apply for free. The aforementioned discounts can then be granted on presentation of one's European Youth Card.
