The Labour Government has given up on solving the crisis in the health sector, the Nationalist Party said Tuesday.
So much so that instead of using his time and energy to solve the problems created by his Government, the Minister for Health prefers to launch baseless attacks on the Partit Nazzjonalista, which is trying to provide solutions. Same as he did when he attacked the medical association and its leadership.
During yesterday's parliamentary session, Minister Jo Etienne Abela confirmed that he has given up on solving the crisis in the health sector, attempting to console us by saying that London also has its own issues, the statement signed by health spokesman Adrian Delia said.
As it has done before, the PN once again urged the Government to stop wasting time on personal attacks and instead sit down with all stakeholders to find a way forward together.
The PN said it stands ready to assist in this regard. It is now up to the Government to set aside its arrogance and listen to those with the solutions, Delia concluded.
In response, the Labour Party said that the PN's only intention is to attack the health sector to the detriment of our patients.
"The Labour Government is committed to reforms within this sector that will increase efficiency and improve services given to our patients. While Health Minister Jo Etienne Abela has repeatedly listed various solutions to address situations developing in the health sector, former Nationalist Leader Adrian Delia has to decide whether he is going to put patients' interests or his personal interests first, as the legal representative of his clients. He was caught using his position as a member of Parliament to serve his clients, including the owner of St Philip's Hospital. The only solution for the health system according to Delia was to sell St Philip's Hospital to the Government. This is a failed hospital and with a debt amounting to €12 million, as confirmed by the courts recently," the PL said.
"Delia was also revealed to have used his Parliamentary privilege to ask through a parliamentary question about a private company of his client, which objected to a contract awarded by Enemalta. Delia was also caught because he had attacked the purchase of the waste-to-energy plant with the sum of €600 million by Wasteserv when he is the legal representative of a consortium that submitted a bid amounting to an extra €200 million."
"Delia is Skanska's lawyer who enjoyed a waiver on the defective concrete of Mater Dei Hospital, and during the time of a Nationalist Government this company was referained from paying the costs for the bad work he carried out," the PL said.
The Labour Party condemed the "shallow politics" of the Nationalist Party in this sector and said it shall continue to put patients' interests first and foremost.
