An open space, close to the Divine Mercy Church in Naxxar will be transformed into a recreational green area after the Planning Authority (PA) agreed to finance over €240,000 for this project to materialise, the PA said Thursday.

This Urban Greening Project in Naxxar, financed through the PA's Development Planning Fund (DPF), represents a substantial investment in enhancing public spaces and fostering community well-being. The project aims to provide a high-quality public space that meets the needs of families, children, and the broader community.

The modern, accessible playing field that will be integrated into the existing landscaped area will include new play equipment designed for children of all ages, shading canopies to create comfortable and sun-protected zones, safety flooring to ensure a secure environment for children and benches for relaxation and social interaction.

Recycling waste bins will also be installed to promote proper waste disposal, fences and gates to enhance security and lighting and CCTV for improved safety and usability during evening hours, the PA said.

Perit Sandra Magro, Chairperson of the Development Planning Fund (DPF), emphasized the fund's commitment to provide funding for projects that enhance community vitality through the creation of interactive open spaces. She added that through the Development Planning Fund, the PA will continue to support local councils and communities in building vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive spaces for all.

The project will be executed by the Naxxar Local Council in collaboration with the Northern Regional Council. For further details about the Development Planning Fund visit https://www.pa.org.mt/en/development_planning_fund
