3.6 kilometres of new cables will be added in Attard to the existing network as works are underway to upgrade the electrical distribution system further, the government said.
These details were given during an on-site visit in Attard by Energy Minister Dr Miriam Dalli and Enemalta Executive Chairman Inġ. Ryan Fava. It was said that through these cables, connectivity in this locality will be increased to continue enhancing the resilience and flexibility of the electrical grid.
"This investment reflects the Government's ongoing commitment to continue improving technology and electricity infrastructure in our country. These new cables will further improve connectivity while helping us achieve our goals of a more flexible and resilient electrical supply", Minister Miriam Dalli said.
In addition to the new cable works, the switchgear in the substations will be expanded to continue strengthening the distribution system in this area.
The Executive Chairman of Enemalta, Inġ. Ryan Fava, said that this work continues to build on the efforts started last year, where more than 82 kilometres of new underground cables were installed. He added that this strategic investment will enhance local connectivity and continue to strengthen the electrical grid. He said that with these works, the resilience of the electrical network will be ensured, making the energy infrastructure stronger and more sustainable.
"This project, being carried out in collaboration with Infrastructure Malta and Transport Malta, is part of Enemalta's commitment to installing 60 kilometres of new underground cables in 21 localities across Malta and Gozo. Currently, work is underway in 15 different localities to increase connectivity, with some of them already reaching the final stages of testing," a statement read.
