Parliamentary Secretary for Social Dialogue Andy Ellul said that another 39 operators will be taken to court for failing to get in line with food courier regulations.
Speaking in Parliament during the parliamentary question session on Monday, Ellul said that 39 companies who employ workers to work on food delivery platforms will be taken to Court, as they did not regulate themselves as per employment laws established by government last year. Another five operators have already been taken to court, for a total of 44.
Last year, government imposed the Digital Platform Delivery Wages Council Wage Regulation Order, which set a three-month grace period for companies employing persons delivering consumer products to fall in line with regulations.
The employment laws followed a European Commission directive that forces member states to introduce rights for digital platform workers, guaranteeing fixed salaries, bonuses, overtime, paid sick leave, and other rights for food couriers.
