Two police officers were injured on Sunday morning when the car they were in crashed as they were involved in a car chase.

The accident happened at 1.30am in Triq is-Sorijiet, Tarxien.

A police statement said the police were asked for assistance during a fight that was taking place in Zurrieq.

As they arrived on scene, the police noticed a BMW being driven off and they gave chase.

When they arrived in Tarxien, the police vehicle, a Hyundai Tucson, was involved in a crash with a Fiat 500 driven by a 25-year-old woman of Tarxien.

The police officers - no details were given - were taken to hospital with grievous injuries while the woman was slightly hurt.

The police said that it is questioning a number of people in connection with the fight in Zurrieq.
