PL distances itself from Stagno Navarra, Labour President says he is acting on his own initiative

Labour Party President Alex Sciberras has distanced the Labour Party from Karl Stagno Navarra, saying that the latter is acting on his own initiative.

Recently  Stagno Navarra has made a number of Facebook posts about a decision to remove the reserved parking space outside of Azzopardi's home, which had previously been granted to Azzopardi as a security measure. In one video, the former ONE journalist approached Azzopardi when he was parking, and asked him how he felt about the parking privilege being removed. "Do you still feel arrogant?" Stango Navarra asked Azzopardi. Azzopardi replied with a "yes" and crossed the road.

Sciberras was asked by MaltaToday if Stagno Navarra's actions were representative of the PL. The PL President said no party should get involved in journalist's work. "What Karl Stagno Navarra is doing is on his own initiative."

He said that he continues to believe in politics that addresses the interests of the Maltese people. He said that "it is in nobody's interest to allow division enter among the people," saying that is the PN's style of politics. "We don't say it very lightly that the PN has been taken over by the extremist faction of the PN. That's what happened in the time of Simon Busuttil's leadership and we are again seeing it happening under Bernard Grech's leadership." He said this is because the PN has given up and has nothing to offer. "The only thing it has left is to divide the people and bring in fighting."

Asked if Stagno Navarra is bringing in that style of politics with what he is doing, Sciberras said that Stagno Navarra is raising legitimate questions about "abuses" by Jason Azzopardi. "What interests me most as a political party that is there to act in the best interest of the people is to remain close to the people, understand what it needs and to always be there to be part of the solutions. In a small country like ours, no division of the people ever does any good."

He also said that Stagno Navarra said that there are now attempts to take down his Facebook page. He believes that when it comes to freedom of expression, "I was always at the forefront... and I will be there for everyone."
