PN MP Robert Cutajar has submitted a series of parliamentary questions to Education Minister Clifton Grima on Tuesday, asking him for clear answers and plans for the Mellieħa Primary School.

Last month, Grima told Parliament that it was time for the Mellieħa Primary School to be demolished completely and built anew.

In the past hours, Cutajar asked Grima to provide clear, straightforward answers, without evasion, in the coming days.

He asked if the Minister could table the final plans, as submitted to the Planning Authority, for the reconstruction of Mellieħa Primary School, as well as if Grima can indicate how many consultation meetings have been held in the past two years with the Head of Mellieħa Primary School and the School Council regarding the school's reconstruction.

Additionally, Cutajar asked if the Minister could provide and table the minutes of these meetings.

Cutajar also asked if the Minister could specify which sites in Mellieħa (including exact measurements for each site) were considered in the past two years as possible temporary locations for students while the primary school is being rebuilt.

He asked if the Minister can indicate the current number of students at Mellieħa Primary School, including a separate count of those presently housed in the Mellieħa Sports Club facility.

Since government has already decided to allocate Mellieħa Primary School students to the Family Park at the entrance to Selmun while the school is rebuilt, Cutajar asked if the Minister could confirm how many containers will be placed there to serve as temporary classrooms.

Cutajar asked the Minister to table the approved permits from the relevant authorities detailing how and where the containers will be positioned in the Family Park in Mellieħa to serve as classrooms.

He asked the Minister to specify the size of each container designated as a classroom and state how many students each container will accommodate.

Cutajar also asked Grima to table all studies conducted concerning the site selection for the placement of the classroom containers in the Family Park.

He referred to studies related to health and safety (including sanitation) in the interest of children, teachers, and staff working in the container area, as well as traffic impact in the Braġ and Kortin area.

Cutajar asked Grima to indicate, based on government studies, how the student population at Mellieħa Primary School is expected to increase over the next ten years.

He asked him to state when the demolition of the existing Mellieħa Primary School is expected to begin and when the reconstruction of the school is expected to be completed.

Cutajar also asked Grima to table in Parliament the architects' report which indicated that the Selmun Palace Hotel cannot be temporarily adapted for use as a school until the reconstruction of Mellieħa Primary School is completed.

Cutajar asked the Minister to specify the cost of renting the containers and table all documents related to the tender process for renting these containers.
