Two social benefit payments, those being the In Work Benefit and Carer's Grant, will be paid at the end of this week, the Ministry for Social Policy stated.
The ministry said that both benefits were introduced by the current government and have been strengthened year after year, as it added that the thresholds have also been widened over the years so that more people are eligible for the benefits.
Minister Michael Falzon said that this is the type of policy which is really making a difference in people's lives. "These results are the fruit of consistency, continuous investment and resilience that we have shown throughout times that have not been easy," he commented.
The ministry stated that the In Work Benefit payment that will be made is the first payment for this year and covers the first three months of the year. It added that the payment will be made to more than 23,265 families with an investment of almost €3.6 million, with the investment for this benefit being estimated to reach €16 million in a year.
It continued that through a Budge 2025 measure, this benefit is also ignoring the payment of tax in addition to the payment of social security contributions. It added that the benefit, paid at different rates, was introduced for couples where both parents work, as well as for single parents who work, and that it was late also extended to couples where only one parent works.
In regard to the Carer's Grant, the ministry said that those who are eligible will receive €1,297.50 every three months this year, and that with a measure in Budget 2025, the grant will also be extended to parents, who are unable to work to take care of their children with a severe disability, of children under 16 years of age
