Car park diversions at Mater Dei Hospital as work on new imaging department begins

Saturday, 12 April 2025, 08:34 Last update: about 3 months ago

The Foundation for Medical Services (FMS), in collaboration with Mater Dei Hospital, said that temporary diversions within the Mater Dei Hospital car park came into effect, as construction commenced on the new Medical Imaging Department-a key component of the broader Mater Dei Hospital Extension Project.

The construction works have been carefully coordinated to ensure that all hospital services, including scheduled appointments, will continue without interruption. However, patients and visitors are kindly advised to plan ahead and allow additional time for parking and accessing the hospital, as minor delays may occur due to the temporary diversions.

The new Imaging Department, spread across two floors, will significantly enhance the hospital's diagnostic capabilities, offering faster and more efficient access to scans and other essential imaging procedures, the FMS said. This development forms part of a wider national investment aimed at modernising Malta's healthcare infrastructure, improving the patient experience, and reducing waiting times.

This initiative builds on other completed and ongoing projects forming part of the Mater Dei Hospital Extension. These include the recently inaugurated helipad, which has improved emergency response efficiency, and a new car park dedicated to staff working at Mater Dei Hospital. Additional works are in progress to ensure the hospital remains equipped to meet current and future healthcare demands.

To keep staff, patients, and visitors informed about ongoing developments and any temporary changes that may affect them, a dedicated WhatsApp Channel has been launched under the name "MDH Projects by FMS". Through this channel, real-time updates, notices, and progress milestones will be shared directly with subscribers. The public is encouraged to follow all on-site signage and cooperate with hospital security personnel, who will be present to guide and assist during this period.

FMS and Mater Dei Hospital thank the public for their patience, understanding, and continued support as we work to deliver a future-ready healthcare facility that serves the nation's needs.
