Before the standard parliamentary session began on Monday, Speaker Anglu Farrugia told Members of Parliament that he had requested that inspections be carried out by an architect on parts of the Parliament building, due to "clear evidence of damage indicating shortcomings during the building phase."

Farrugia also said that in the coming days, more inspections will be carried out to determine the state of the two bridges connecting Parliament in Level 1 and 2, both of which will be closed for access due to safety.

He said that work will be carried out to fix the "previous bad job" that was done. Farrugia said that members can access the building through alternative routes.
