113 new lawyers were presented with their warrants to begin their journey in the legal profession after years of study, dedication, and sacrifice, the Ministry for Justice stated.

Minister Jonathan Attard spoke of the importance of the moment as the beginning of a new chapter in the professional lives of the new lawyers. He said that the occasion was a celebration of academic success as well as a commitment to the fundamental values of justice, responsibility, and ethics.

Addressing the new lawyers, Attard spoke of the important mission they have as defenders of justice and as a source of guidance and assistance during the delicate moments in the lives of other people.

Attard encouraged the new lawyers to view their profession as a vocation off service to society, as he commented that their oath is not a formality, but a promise that every decision they make will be based on truth and justice.

He said that the government will remain committed to strengthening the legal sector with legislative, administrative, and infrastructural reform. He spoke of several reforms which were carried out as well as others which are under development in criminal procedures, the family courts, and the development of a new commercial court.

Attard referred to the Venice Commission conference held in London, where he said that Malta was recognised for its concrete commitment to strengthening the rule of law. He said that these reforms should be seen only as a legal obligation, but should be seen as a social commitment. He said that constitutional reforms and development are not a one-off event, but an ongoing process that requires reflection, determination, and constant adaptation.

The ceremony was also addressed by Chief Justice Mark Camilleri and the President of the Chamber of Advocates Dr Peter Fenech. State Advocate Chris Soler and representatives of the Committee of Advocates and Legal Procurators were also present.
