A dilapidated building in Valletta has undergone structural work and renovation and has now been inaugurated as a new social housing building as a building which can provide accommodation with dignity, the Ministry for Social and Affordable Accommodation stated.

Minister Roderick Galdes said that this project was made possible through an investment of around €340,000, as he added that this building is now being given back to the community through social housing. Galdes spoke of the building as a link in a much larger chain of social and affordable housing projects that the government has launched in recent years.

The ministry stated that this building forms part of a number of social housing initiatives, which will see buildings in need of renovation being given the necessary work and given to families in need of state assistance. It added that some of these initiatives are being carried out in Valletta, and thus also help the regeneration of the capital city.

Galdes said that last year, the Housing Authority allocated over 550 new units in various localities, and added that work is currently underway on other buildings in various localities, including in Hal Farrug, where he said an investment of around €40 million will result in around 270 apartments and 300 parking spaces being built.

Housing Authority Chief Executive Matthew Zerafa said that projects such as these continue to strengthen the stock of social accommodation offered by the Housing Authority.

The ministry concluded that this renovation project was carried out by the Housing Authority in collaboration with Housing Projects Solutions Ltd.
