The Malta Ranger Unit said that it needs public support after its main investor has moved away from Malta.
The MRU issued a statement to its online followers on Tuesday morning, in which it said that "Unfortunately, the biggest investor of the MRU moved away from Malta and to continue our work at the level we're at, we need your support now more than ever."
It launched a fundraiser in hopes that the funds raised could enable it to continue its operations efficiently.
The MRU said that since it began operating in 2023, it pledged to be "a 100% independent NGO" - free from politics and red tape.
It said that its integrity and independence has allowed it to work with high efficiency, but not having government backing also comes at a cost.
The MRU told its followers that it relies solely on donations it receives from the public, its patrons, and "the ones believing in our work and mission."
The rangers are urging everyone who is a fan of the work it has done in the last three years to donate and financially support it today.
"Any amount can be donated. All will be reinvested in environmental protection!" the MRU wrote.
The MRU added that if a person donates €25 or more, it will offer them all the perks that come with its annual membership scheme (which costs €25 per year).
It also mentioned that financially backing the MRU, which functions as an NGO, is an investment in nature.
