At least €3.17m: Ħamrun Spartans’ European breakthrough promises major financial windfall

Ħamrun Spartans' historic qualification for the UEFA Conference League group stage not only marks a first for Maltese football but also secures a lucrative financial reward. By advancing past Latvian side RFS with a 3-2 aggregate score, the club has guaranteed itself a base payout of around €3.17 million from UEFA.

The earnings do not stop there. Each victory in the group phase is worth approximately €400,000, while a draw earns €133,000. Additional performance bonuses include €400,000 for a top-eight finish in the league phase and €200,000 for placing between ninth and 24th.

UEFA has earmarked €285 million for Conference League clubs in the 2024-25 season, spread across participation fees, performance rewards and market pool shares.

This qualification also benefits the domestic league. With Ħamrun receiving direct UEFA funding, prize money distributed to other Maltese Premier League clubs will now be divided among 11 teams rather than 12, ensuring a larger share for each.
