On Friday 12 September, the Fondazzjoni Bażilika Kristu Re, Malta was launched, with the aim of safeguarding the heritage of the Paola parish, while fostering faith.

The Foundation was established to protect and preserve the patrimony that forms part of the Basilica and parish of Christ the King in Paola, and to support the pastoral, cultural, and social work of the parish community.

In his speech on the occasion of the launch, the Parish Priest, Can. Fr Marc André Camilleri, said that the aim of the Foundation is not to replicate the excellent work carried out by museums and other cultural sites, but rather to share a living experience with visitors.

"At the centre of this work lies the church of Christ the King, which speaks of the people of Paola today, the community spirit, the faith lived during the solemn liturgy of Good Friday, as well as in the joyous praise that accompany the titular statue in July. Over the years this Church, through trials and tribulations, has remained steadfast, resilient, and victorious, a symbol of faith that unites us and leads us forward," said Parish Priest Camilleri.

"Together we can continue to strengthen what we have, address the needs of the present, and pass on what is dear to us to future generations," the Parish Priest concluded.

During the event, which was held on the renovated portico of the Basilica, a short video was shown describing the history of Paola from ancient times, including the ambitious construction of the church of Christ the King, the largest church in Malta. Those present also visited the Oratory where the Good Friday statues are kept, which has been newly restored and will be open to the public in the future. The restoration of the Oratory was supported by the Malta Tourism Authority, the Malta Residency Agency and donations from parishioners.
