Leader of the Opposition Alex Borg said that it was a source of satisfaction for him to see that the Nationalist and The Malta Chamber of Commerce are moving on the same track, with both visions being very similar.

A PN statement Friday said during the meeting, which forms part of a series of pre-Budget 2026 meetings and the first one of Alex Borg with the Malta Chamber since becoming Leader of the PN, the President of The Malta Chamber William Spiteri Bailey and Chief Executive Officer Marthese Portelli presented the pre-budget document prepared by the Chamber. 

There was full agreement on the need for our country to make the leap from quantity to quality, including in tourism - something the Leader of the Partit Nazzjonalista has long been insisting upon.

The Malta Chamber insisted that the country's problems cannot be solved with quick fixes but with wise decisions and a long-term vision, as the Partit Nazzjonalista has also long maintained, the PN statement said.

Among the various themes discussed during the meeting held at the Chamber's headquarters in Valletta were tourism, productivity, the need for less bureaucracy for businesses, the use of public funds and health.

Borg praised the work of the Chamber and thanked it for the well-studied proposals it presents, including the Time to Action document, and said that now is truly the moment for these proposals not to remain on paper but to be implemented.

Present for this meeting with the members of the Council of The Malta Chamber were the CEO of the PN Sabine Agius Cabourdin as well as Shadow Ministers Beppe Fenech Adami, Jerome Caruana Cilia, Graham Bencini, Joe Giglio, Mario De Marco, Darren Carabott, Rebecca Borg, Ivan Castillo and Mark Anthony Sammut.

At the end of the meeting, Borg said that he looks forward to further sharing of ideas and full collaboration with The Malta Chamber. A joint effort that must lead to stronger businesses, a growing economy and benefits for the Maltese and Gozitan people as a whole.
