A meeting with the National Audit Office regarding the Fortina case is set to take place in the coming days to determine the way forward, Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa said on Friday while responding to the media following a press conference on the Police Force’s five-year corporate strategy.

Gafa was speaking in regard to a National Audit Office report which showed that the Government had pushed through a parliamentary resolution to remove conditions on land in Sliema acquired by the Fortina Group, which saw the private sector entity pay millions less than what an audit firm had valued.

When asked if police were actively investigating the matter, the Police Commissioner said that the police have been in contact with the NAO for the past months and were receiving updates on the case, with a meeting now having been scheduled to discuss details and determine a way forward after the NAO report was published.

“Much of the work has already been done… we now need to understand where the remit of the NAO was and where the police’s remit is,” Gafa remarked.

Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg has previously stated that “every cent the government is owed” in regard to the Fortina land concession must be collected.
