The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Anġlu Farrugia, welcomed a delegation from the Rotary Club of Taranto, Italy, on a courtesy visit to Parliament.
In his remarks, the Speaker underlined that the House of Representatives is the highest forum of national representation and dialogue, embodying the will of the people through democracy.
He highlighted the longstanding cultural, historical, and maritime ties between Malta and Southern Italy, with reference to Taranto's shared Mediterranean heritage, and stressed the importance of fostering mutual understanding across the region.
The Speaker also emphasised the central role of parliaments in building trust between nations, noting that beyond governments, it is through democratic institutions and civic engagement that enduring cooperation is achieved.
The visit concluded with an exchange of views on enhancing Malta-Italy cooperation and reaffirmed the shared commitment to promoting dialogue, service, and democratic values across the Mediterranean.
