Man seriously injured in Birgu shooting, 70-year-old suspect in custody

A man was seriously injured in a shooting in Birgu, the police said on Sunday.

Informing the media of what had transpired so far, the police said that they had received reports of an alleged shooting at around 1pm on Triq il-Qalb ta' Gesu, Birgu.

The police said that an alleged argument had broken out prior to the shooting, and an injured man was found on the scene in an apartment block by the police.

The injured man is a 33-year-old resident of Bormla, and investigations had found that the alleged aggressor was suspected to have fled the area but was found some minutes later by the police. The 33-year-old was taken to Mater Dei Hospital.

The police said that the suspect is a 70-year-old man who is a resident of Birgu.

Magistrate Monica Borg Galea is leading an inquiry into the situation, and police investigations are ongoing.
