The Grist opens its doors with a chromatic explosion - New Arrangements, a solo show by Nico Krijno, reimagines the image as a living, breathing entity.
This is a new contemporary art space at The Brewhouse. It launches its exhibition programme with New Arrangements, a vivid and kaleidoscopic solo show by acclaimed South African artist Nico Krijno. This exhibition marks the first ripple in The Grist's unfolding visual symphony. This inaugural exhibition is presented in collaboration with Bored Peach Club, marking both the beginning of The Grist's curatorial activity and a new partnership between The Brewhouse and one of Malta's most dynamic artistic platforms.

‘New Arrangements' for a New Chapter in Contemporary Art in Malta
Set against the striking industrial backdrop of the former Farsons brewery, New Arrangements transforms the freshly minted gallery into a hyper-saturated world of colour, shape, and distortion. Rather than capturing reality, Nico Krijno reimagines it. Flowers collapse into abstraction, vases fold inwards, shadows vibrate, and familiar objects mutate beyond recognition.

Krijno's works are dynamic and mercurial. They blend elements of photography, painting, and sculptural form. Working across analog photography, digital editing, and painterly experimentation, he treats the image as raw material in a constant state of transformation. The result is a visual language that resists stillness and invites the viewer to look again and again.
From glitchy geometries to rippling abstractions, New Arrangements explores the conventions of image-making and challenges how we see and interpret. At the core of Krijno's practice is a sense of curiosity and refusal to settle. What happens when an image slips its frame? When visual logic dissolves into something more uncertain and playful?

Artist Profile
Nico Krijno (b. 1981, South Africa) deconstructs traditional photographic practice through a unique approach that blends digital collage, painterly gesture, and bold experimentation. His work exists at the intersection of photography, performance, and abstraction. Known for balancing precision with spontaneity, Krijno creates images that are vibrant, unexpected, and visually compelling. His practice has been exhibited internationally and is praised for its ability to push the boundaries of photographic language.

About the Collaboration
This exhibition is the first in a new curatorial programme at The Grist. Designed to position both The Brewhouse and Bored Peach Club at the forefront of the Maltese and international contemporary art scenes, the programme will feature curated exhibitions and open calls that encourage participation from both emerging and established artists. Curated by Fabrizio Mifsud Soler, New Arrangements sets the tone for a series of exhibitions that highlight experimentation, cross-cultural dialogue, and artistic innovation.
