One of the oldest temple complex sites (if not the oldest) is found in Ġgantija, on Malta's sister island of Gozo. This world heritage structure, protected by UNESCO, never fails to capture the imagination as to how and why, on such a tiny island, these enormous standing structures were erected.
Looking at the timeline of Maltese history, starting from the era known as pre-history (5,000-218 B.C.), Ġgantija was constructed during the Megalithic period (3,600-2,500 B.C.).
The construction of the Ġgantija temple complex can be safely dated to 3,600 B.C. They were discovered in the 1820s with early writings pointing to the Phoenician origin of the structures whilst others attributed the work to the one-eyed Cyclopean race for their enormous strength and skill in architecture.
Who were the Giants?
Many researchers link the Ġgantija temples with a race of giants who built them. Giants are depicted in the Judeo-Christian faiths as a mixture of fallen angels and the daughters of men. The mention of giants in the Bible often captures people's attention and imagination, where according to some interpretations, giants descended from a sexual relationship between the 'sons of God' or fallen angels and the 'daughters of humans' mentioned in Genesis 6.
The Nephilim or giants are first mentioned in Genesis 6:1-4, where they are described as the offspring of "sons of God" and human women before the Flood (ante-diluvian era). There is debate over the meaning of the term 'Nephilim' - it could mean "fallen ones" or refer to their huge physical stature.
When part of the angelic realm, rebelled against God, one third went its own way siding with Lucifer, the leader of this rebellion.
In Revelation 12:14, we read in the ESV version, 'His tail (Lucifer's) swept down a third of the stars of heaven and cast them to the earth.......'
Although there is no direct evidence linking the giants to specific grand structures as those found in Ġgantija, ongoing research is trying to find any missing link to provide credible evidence, as is being done in the case of a recent study reported in the Jerusalem post of 15 February 2022 in a feature titled, "Evidence of 'biblical giants' found in Northern Israel - new docu-series to present rare, researched look at the Nephilim".
Adding the spiritual dimension
In Judeo-Christian texts, the absence or falling away from God, led to humans building high places, altars, temple complexes and sanctuaries to foreign gods, other than God Himself. One of these gods was Molech.
We read in 1 Kings 11:7, 'Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, on the hill that is east of Jerusalem, and for Molech the abomination of the people of Ammon.' So horrifying was the nature of the god and his worship that he is called 'the abomination'
For instance, the Carthaginians, who had colonies in Malta, practiced child sacrifice at Tophet, a type of sacred burial ground. Archaeological finds in Malta have unearthed Tophets, supporting the Carthaginian practice of child sacrifice in the region. The discovery of inscriptions has been taken to suggest the possibility that such a Tophet existed also in Malta
The Bible cites Israel's ancient neighbours, the Canaanites, as those who participated in child sacrifice. The ancient Greek and Roman historians bear witness to the biblical testimony as they recorded the practices of two Canaanite people in particular, the Phoenicians and those of their African colony, Carthage.
The Phoenicians ruled Malta from 800-480 B.C. The reason for their coming to Malta is explained by Diodorus Siculus where he states, 'For to the south of Sicily three islands lie out in the sea, and each of them possesses a city and harbours which can offer safety to ships on rough weather.'
The most pagan of acts
In the case of the pagan world, the result of God's absence and the turning away from God's presence resulted in the construction of temples and the practice of pagan rituals. One would expect anything gruesome and morally abhorrent which was contrary to all that undergirds human existence because of these pagan practices.
These pagan rituals could be found universally in the temples of ancient Egypt to the shrines of Tahiti, from the altars of Mesopotamia to the hanging trees of Germany, from India to Hawaii, from East Africa to Tibet, from the Aztecs to the Celts, from the Druids to the Mongolians and among countless other peoples in countless other lands.
Human and animal sacrifice were symptomatic of pagan culture, thought, and values, and the overall devaluation and degradation of life. Whilst the archaeological value of the Ġgantija and other temples scattered around Malta cannot be underestimated for the insights they provide, one cannot fail to skip the spiritual dimension connected to their erection.
In many ways, the pagan rituals and worshipping of false gods practiced during pre-history in these temples and their altars are still present in the world today, albeit in different forms (such as, euthanasia, abortion, animal and child abuse).
Shift-shaping and other anomalies
Holding on to the proposition that giants, as mentioned in the Bible, are the result of an alien/hybrid mixture between fallen angels (evil angelic beings) and humans, it would only be appropriate to examine whether there is any connection between them and other earthly visitations in the form of aliens, UFO's and other supernatural manifestations.
The angels who did not rebel against with God, as recounted in the Bible, is purposeful and explains their role in carrying out God's will, even through their interaction with humans. On the other hand, demonic angels, associated with Satan can shapeshift to deceive, tempt, or mislead humans. This shapeshifting includes mythologies and folklore, werewolves, vampires, and spirits from different cultures.
Many T.V. series put forward the idea that aliens are visiting humans and trying to make contact. Some even say that they were abducted by aliens and experimented upon by them. When a person falls away from God or does not believe in Him and what He revealed in the Bible fall in the trap of associating aliens with benevolent interdimensional visitations from other planets. This is a deception that can have unpleasant consequences.
One such case is Skinwalker Ranch, which is Utah's second most mysterious site, situated in the Uinta Basin and the subject of a History Channel show. Many anomalies have taken place at this ranch like bright lights, strange voices, electrical disturbances and cattle mutilated with scientific precision. Other paranormal incidents include flying saucers, mysterious lights, unknown illnesses on those conducting experiments, and shape-shifting monsters.
Cover-Ups
A race of giants was discovered in North America with thousands of giants being found particularly in the Mississippi Falley, as well as ruins of the giants' cities. In his book, The Ancient Giants who ruled America: The Missing Skeletons and the Great Smithsonian Cover-Up, Richard J. Dewhurst shows how a suppression began shortly after the Civil War and transformed into an outright cover-up in 1879.
A note of caution
There are many scoffers who dismiss most of the research mentioned in this write-up and would find no problem in dabbling in the occult or engage in paranormal activities hoping to get rich or obtain other gains, ultimately at the expense of the health of their mind, body and spirit.
In the light of the evil phenomenon, one must handle with care attempts to contact such entities and most wisely they should not be contacted at all. The evil manifestations prove that they are not benevolent but part of an ancient alien theory existing in multiple cultures throughout history.
Through ancient religious texts, humans witnessed and interacted with gods or other heavenly beings and constructed huge stone structures such as Ġgantija, Stonehenge, the ruins at Puma Punku, and the pyramids of Giza in Egypt. Egyptian hieroglyphs also depict hybrid creatures that were part man, part animal and mysterious crop circles.
Whether you are a believer of the Bible or not, it is evident that the world is not only becoming eviler from within, but studies of ancient temples and present-day experiments, the fallen angels seem not to have lost hope in deceiving the world and its inhabitants.
