MADC's stage adaptation of The Full Monty, is heading to Teatru Manoel in October - and some of Malta's top performers are getting set to bare all to recreate the timeless story. Plus, four other theatre veterans are also set to make special appearances: Pia Zammit, Coryse Borg, Steve Casaletto and Antonio Tufigno.

Simon Beaufoy's stage adaptation - the same writer behind the film that was one of the defining pop culture moments of the nineties - follows six out-of-work steelworkers in Sheffield, as they decide to do the unthinkable to make ends meet. And audiences can expect MADC's production to be as funny and moving as the original film - with, thanks to its brilliant cast of veterans and newcomers, distinctly Maltese performance flair.

For Pia Zammit, in many ways, The Full Monty feels like returning home. "I remember the film when it first came out, and it has so much heart and humour. It's a story about ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances," she shares. "I always love taking part in MADC productions. And I get to be directed by Francesca Briffa, which I love, as she's wacky with a strict exterior, but constantly giggling while telling us 'do it again, but better!' It's such a fun cast - I'm making loads of new friends and then getting to see them without clothes. What's not to love?"

Adding to the impressive line-up of guest stars, the cast includes Alan Paris, Stephen Oliver, Brendon Thearle, Lewis Preston, Shaun Rizzo and Taha Chaudhry, alongside Angelica Sant, Keira Galea, Richard Godden, Alan Azzopardi, Matthew Grech Marguerat and Sarah Jane Zrinzo. The Full Monty also introduces Charlie Paris and Simon Tufigno, sharing the role of Nathan.

While the show may carry a 16+ rating for mature themes and nudity, its enduring appeal lies in its authenticity, says Coryse Borg. "It's honest. Life throws challenges at everyone, but the story shows how friendship and a touch of boldness can carry you through. That mix of grit and cheek still feels just as relevant today." On performing the stage version of such a classic film, she adds, "There's a special energy in sharing certain moments with a live audience that simply can't be replicated on screen - plus, let's just say the surprises feel that bit closer when you're actually in the audience!"

Audiences still love The Full Monty because it finds humour in truth, observes Steve Casaletto. "As with all good English comedy, the best humour comes from real life and real issues. The Full Monty is about creativity in the face of desperation. The humour is completely honest and it's hilarious because you believe these characters could really be in that situation."

The experience of joining the cast of The Full Monty has been just as invigorating for Antonio Tufigno, he shares: "The atmosphere, the smell of backstage, the amazing cast, the adrenaline - it's all there! Rehearsals have been a joy, especially when laughter breaks out at the most unexpected moments." The show's broad appeal lies in its balance, he believes. "The Full Monty has an excellent pace and the cast is a great mix of established and emerging talent. It's a good mix that makes the play attractive to all audiences."

With MADC's creative team including director Francesca Briffa, set designer Romualdo Moretti, costume designer Nicole Cuschieri, lighting designer Chris Gatt, dialect coach Stephen Oliver and choreographer Sarah Jane Zrinzo, The Full Monty promises to be a night out full of feel-good nostalgia.
