On Sunday 2 November, the Tayar Foundation for Jewish Heritage in Malta invites the public to join guided tours of the Marsa Jewish Cemetery, a historic site that reflects centuries of Jewish presence on the islands.

The Tayar Foundation, named in honour of the Tayar family, was established six years ago to safeguard Malta's Jewish heritage and to acknowledge the family's lasting contribution to the country's cultural and economic life throughout the 20th century.

During the Open Day, three tours will be conducted by Dr Sarah Azzopardi-Ljubibratic (Executive Secretary of the Foundation) who will trace the history of the Jewish community in Malta from Phoenician and Roman times to the modern era. Tours will begin at 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. Registrations are required.

The cemetery tells many stories - of rabbis and community leaders, of wartime soldiers and families who made Malta their home. Visitors will discover graves that link Malta to North Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, each offering a glimpse into the island's diverse Jewish past.

The public will also be informed about the ongoing restoration works at the site, undertaken in collaboration with the Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works, aimed at preserving this unique heritage for future generations.
