Art, in its truest form, has the power to reshape how we see the world, not as a collection of static objects, but as a vibrant, breathing system in constant dialogue with time, space, and memory. How to Feed on Majesty to Become Eloquent - An Exhibition of Contemporary African Art, a Spazju Kreattiv commissioned co-curated by Sarah Abdu Bushra (Ethiopia) and Christine Xuereb Seidu, a captivating exhibition featuring artists from across sub-Saharan Africa, embodies this living exchange. It weaves together the forces of land, water, light, and time, exploring how they coexist and sustain one another through ritual, memory, and place.

Rather than treating these elements as mere subjects, the participating artists embrace them as collaborators, dynamic presences that guide and shape their creative practices. Their works unfold organically, echoing the rhythms of the natural world and challenging Euro-modern frameworks that often separate art, knowledge, and spirituality. Instead, they offer ways of thinking and creating rooted in indigenous wisdom and ecological balance. This ethos is shared by artists Berhanu Ashagrie (Ethiopia), Tamrat Gezahegn (Ethiopia), Miriam Hillawi Abraham (Ethiopia), Eyoel Kefyalew (Ethiopia), Kirubel Melke (Ethiopia), James Muriuki (Kenya), Rural Futurisms (South Africa), Fatima Tayob Moosa (South Africa), Helen Zeru (Ethiopia), and the South African Collective (South Africa).

The exhibition draws inspiration from Rumi's mystical notion of Sohbet, a form of conversation grounded in presence, listening, and communion. This philosophy transforms the gallery into a living space of exchange and reflection, where visitors are invited to engage not only with the artworks, but with the systems of life and cultural memory that breathe through them.

Themes of time, grief, grace, and decay course through the exhibition like the tides, not as fixed ideas but as active forces of transformation. Each work becomes part of a cycle, growth and dissolution, creation and renewal, mirroring the regenerative patterns of the earth itself.

Ultimately, How to Feed on Majesty to Become Eloquent invites us to slow down, to listen deeply, and to recognise the intricate bonds between land, culture, and imagination. It reminds us that art can be both mirror and conduit, a means to commune with the forces that sustain life, and to envision more harmonious ways of being together.
