A strong economy is not just numbers on a piece of paper, Natiinalist Party leader Alex Borg said Monday. An economy that is performing well should mean a better life for the people. It should mean a quality life for everyone.

In a message on social media shortly before the budget for the coming year is presented, Borg said that although the slogan for Budget 2026 is A strong economy, a future for our children, in their daily lives many Maltese and Gozitans are not feeling the effects of this so-called strong economy.

He reminded that the cost of living is increasing daily. Wages are not keeping up and many young people cannot become homeowners despite working tirelessly, going from one job to another.

A significant number of families are living from pay cheque to pay cheque.

Borg said that if we truly want a future for our children, we must run an economy that works for everyone, that creates quality jobs, and that looks towards sustainability, not slogans.

He said that while the Government attempts to give the impression that everything is going well, through his daily meetings with people he can see that the real challenge is not stating how much the economy has grown, but how this growth reaches everyone.

Borg added that the PN believes in an economy with a heart; an economy that gives dignity, stability, and opportunity to every person and every family. This, ultimately, must be the ultimate aim of those who shape our country's policies.
