Marking its 15th edition, ŻiguŻajg continues to weave a tapestry of magical stories and shared adventures between families. What began as a festival has grown into a cherished tradition, a moment each year when families laugh, learn, and rediscover the simple wonder of storytelling together.

For 15 years, the ŻiguŻajg Festival has been Malta's most joyful celebration of imagination, a space where families come together to explore the world through art. This month, from 14 to 23, Valletta, Birgu, and Gozo will once again burst into life with theatre, music, dance, film, and visual art created especially for children and young people.

At ŻiguŻajg Festival 2025, performances like Planet Much N' Stuff and What's Missing? invite young audiences to think deeply about what truly matters. Through laughter, movement, puppetry, and sound, these productions show how creativity and learning can go hand in hand.

In Planet Much N' Stuff, children step into a world overflowing with consumerism, where characters face relentless pressure to buy, own, and outshine. It's a bold, funny, and thought-provoking exploration of what brings genuine happiness, an invitation to imagine a simpler, more connected world. Meanwhile, What's Missing? uses puppetry and elemental imagery to reveal how balance and collaboration shape our planet, turning environmental awareness into a poetic and emotional experience.

ŻiguŻajg has always understood that the arts are powerful teachers. This year's line-up showcases that philosophy at every level. Cabinet of Miracles encourages discovery by transforming the stage into a living classroom, where artefacts and imagination combine to reveal the magic of learning. In Fjamma/Flame: every children a guardian of nature, children encounter immersive pods themed around the natural elements, wind, fire, water, earth, and space, experiencing how art can connect them to nature, mindfulness, and heritage.

Learning, of course, isn't limited to the natural world. ŻiguŻajg's performances teach empathy, resilience, and curiosity. Anton u l-Għakruxu, a Maltese-language adventure, invites children to help a boy and his snail companion use imagination and teamwork to overcome challenges, a celebration of kindness and collaboration. Kinder introduces history through storytelling and puppetry, showing how one child's courage during the Second World War can teach timeless lessons about compassion and hope.

The festival also nurtures self-expression. Uncover | Discover lets audiences watch three clowns learn to embrace vulnerability and rediscover joy, teaching that it's okay to be different, and to be yourself. Similarly, Sitt Ġrajjiet u Naqra Għala Spiċċajna (Kif Spiċċajna) reflects on big questions facing today's youth through movement and poetry, proving that the arts can be both entertaining and deeply meaningful.

For babies and toddlers, ŻiguŻajg remains a safe and stimulating space for sensory exploration. Chasing Rainbows and Univers transform theatre into play, using colour, sound, and touch to introduce the world's first learners to creativity. Fox and Hare Save the Forest builds on that early wonder, using animation and storytelling to teach children about friendship, community, and environmental care.

And for those who love visual art and film, Flow, this year's Oscar-winning feature, offers a masterclass in storytelling without words. Its message of trust and connection resonates across all ages, showing how powerful empathy can be.

ŻiguŻajg Festival 2025 proves that when art meets education, magic happens. Every performance, from the simplest puppet show to the grandest theatrical journey, invites young audiences to see, feel, and think in new ways. In doing so, it helps families discover that learning doesn't end in the classroom, it thrives wherever imagination is alive.
