Lawyer Jason Azzopardi has said that an envelope he received six years ago, which he had reported to the police at the time, was found to contain cocaine.
In a Facebook post on Friday, Azzopardi said that he had received an envelope with white powder on 22 February 2019, prompting him to immediately inform the police and request a magisterial inquiry, which was opened that same night.
He wrote that he was officially informed only on Thursday this week, following his own request, that forensic tests had confirmed the substance was cocaine, and that the inquiry had been closed later that year with an order from the magistrate to the Police Commissioner to continue their investigations.
"Incredible. Yesterday I learned that six years ago a magisterial inquiry was concluded into an attempt to frame me by sending me drugs, and in six years the Police Commissioner never called me to ask if I had any suspicions," Azzopardi said.
He added that had he been questioned, he would have confirmed he had suspicions, saying that "we later came to know what was going on behind the scenes during that period."
"You should be ashamed," Azzopardi said, seemingly addressing the police.
