Local artist Karen Bartolo Lungaro presents her latest exhibition, The New Beginning, a collection that reflects both her artistic evolution and her personal journey. This solo exhibition is being held at the Creative Expressions Art Gallery at Emmanuel Galea Street in Zejtun until 21 November.

The exhibition is thoughtfully divided into two parts, offering visitors a glimpse into Karen's development as an artist - from her early, meticulously detailed works to her more recent, expressive abstractions.

The first section showcases pieces created during her formative years, many of which were produced while she was studying art. These early works reveal Karen's remarkable attention to detail and her technical precision. In contrast, The New Beginning marks a bold shift in style, featuring vibrant colours, dynamic shapes, and layered textures. Her latest paintings, mostly in acrylics and watercolours, embrace abstraction and emotion, celebrating freedom of expression and experimentation with mixed media.

For Karen, this exhibition truly represents a "new beginning". While her earlier landscapes were grounded in realism, she now finds creative fulfilment in exploring colour, rhythm, and form. The result is a body of work that captures movement, emotion, and the energy of the modern world.

About the Artist

Born on 25 February 1978, Karen Bartolo Lungaro discovered her passion for art at an early age. She began her artistic education at Carlo Diacono Girls' Junior Lyceum in Żejtun, studying under Mr Portelli, before continuing her studies at Junior College and later at the University of Malta. There, she was mentored by Isabelle Borg, Lino Borg, and Joseph Cassar.

In 2000, Karen graduated with a B.Ed (Hons) in Art and EMY and began her career as an art teacher with the Education Department. Her daily engagement with art and her students eventually inspired her to hold her first solo exhibition - an experience that would set her on the path to The New Beginning.

Karen's work continues to evolve as she explores the endless possibilities of colour, texture, and form. Through this latest collection, she invites viewers to experience art as both reflection and renewal.
