A senior police officer has been put on forced leave after the police received an anonymous tip that an abuse has been committed, the police said Thursday.

The police statement did not name the officer or give his rank or type of abuse that was allegedly committed.

He was named in other media as Assistant Commissioner Malcolm Bondin, who heads the organised crime unit, and that the abuse committed is related to stolen car parts.

In its statement, the police said that the report was received through the Break the Silence initiative that the corps introduced in November 2020 "to improve good governance and integrity".

The anonymous report was "filed in the last hours", the police said, and as administrative measure the officer was placed on forced leave.

The police are now investigating the report.
