Over 15,000 book vouchers were used in this year's National Book Festival, the Minister for Education, Clifton Grima, revealed on Tuesday.

Book vouchers, valued at €20 each, were distributed to youths between the ages of 5-16 years old to incentivise reading during this annual festival. These vouchers were only able to be used on book purchases during this Festival.

Education Minister Clifton Grima said that this distributed assistance for children and teenagers to buy books was granted through a government investment of €600,000.

Minister Grima said that these vouchers were "a success" and that this was one of several government initiatives undertaken to promote literacy across the country.

He also mentioned that over 40,000 visitors flocked to the National Book Festival at Ta' Qali's MFCC - a national record.

Minister Grima shared this information following a Parliamentary Question by PL MP Katya De Giovanni.
