Updated: Man dies in fall on db Towers construction site in Pembroke

 A man from Turkey has died following a fall on the site where the db Group Towers are being constructed in Pembroke.

The accident happened in Pietru D'Armenia Street at 7.45am, the police said in a statement.

The man, aged 25, fell a height of two storeys, the police said.

Magistrate Joseph Mifsud is leading an inquiry.

In a statement on Wednesday morning, db Group said the man was employed by HAS, a Turkish subcontracted company engaged on the project. "The db Group is, and will continue to, fully collaborate with the respective investigating authorities. The Group also pledges its full support to the victim's family and colleagues."

The Pembroke Local Council expressed its sorrow for the tragic incident that led to the death of the young worker, the council said in a statement on Facebook.

"In this moment of sorrow, the Council extends its condolences to the relatives and family of the victim. While awaiting the outcome of the investigations into the incident, it believes in acting with prudence. Any further comment at this stage would be inappropriate and out of place," the Council said.
