Lawrence Fardell has been identified as the man who died on Monday after falling four storeys into a building shaft.
Fardell, a 41-year-old from Vittoriosa who worked at Fardell Home Maintenance, fell at an apartment block in St Paul's Bay on Monday morning and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Forensic examinations have ruled out foul play, according to sources speaking to Times of Malta. However, an inquiry led by Magistrate Joseph Mifsud, alongside a police investigation, is still ongoing.
The San Lawrenz External Festivities Committee expressed condolences on social media, describing Fardell as a well-loved young man, devoted to Saint Lawrence and supportive of the Feast through generous donations and voluntary work. They wrote that his loss will leave a significant void among the people of Vittoriosa and his friends.
Jason Portelli, the vice mayor of Vittoriosa, also shared a tribute online, saying that Birgu had "lost one of its sons." He described Fardell as a man of few words but a big heart, and offered condolences to his parents, Cettina and Joe, and to all his loved ones.
