A new pedestrian bridge will be constructed in Msida to improve safety and mobility for the hundreds of students and residents who cross the area daily, the Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works has announced.

The bridge, which will link the two sides of Msida, aims to provide a safer route for pedestrians while improving access for those using public transport. It forms part of ongoing works by Infrastructure Malta.

The project was announced during a meeting between Transport Minister Chris Bonett and the recently elected Junior College Students' Council. The proposal had been highlighted in student organisation Pulse's electoral manifesto, leading the council to raise it soon after taking office.

Minister Bonett emphasised the value of maintaining dialogue with the community, particularly students, stating that they can be "important catalysts for change". He said the Government remains committed to delivering sustainable and reliable alternatives that promote active mobility. According to the minister, the bridge is expected to significantly boost pedestrian safety, improve connectivity and remove the need for existing traffic lights.

Junior College Students' Council president Amjad Zina said the council acted immediately to push the proposal forward and welcomed how quickly the development was confirmed. He added that he looks forward to seeing the bridge materialise for the benefit of all students.

The pedestrian bridge will form part of the wider Msida Creek project, which aims to create more open spaces, expand pedestrian routes and improve accessibility, in line with the Government's vision for a safer and more people-centred infrastructure.
