Joseph Calleia remains something of an enigma. We know him from afar, through his remarkable success during Hollywood's golden age, yet only catch fleeting glimpses of the man behind the fame. Beyond his cinematic achievements, little is publicly known about him, and perhaps it is precisely this mystery that makes his story so compelling.

This exhibition, invites you to rediscover Calleia: to reflect, to learn, and to help ensure that future generations do the same. Despite his fame, he seems to exist in another world - one from which only scattered pieces remain. Together, their collections help us piece together a larger puzzle. This is just the beginning - a first step toward renewed appreciation for Calleia's life and legacy.

Special thanks go to Alan Fenech, whose book - still the only volume dedicated to Calleia - was invaluable in shaping this exhibition.
At the Storm Petrel Foundation, we are committed to celebrating art, literature, and popular culture, especially the creatives and productions from our own shores. Calleia stands among the very few Maltese actors who found true success in Hollywood, at a time when leaving the island - let alone thriving in such a demanding industry - was a formidable challenge.

One thing is certain: Joseph Calleia was a man of extraordinary talent and unwavering determination. He left Malta with nothing but a dream, yet remained loyal to his homeland throughout his life. Though gone, he lives on - immortal through film.
