Tour Ġustizzja għal Artna visits Mellieħa for its second stop

Sunday, 7 December 2025, 16:46 Last update: about 8 months ago

This morning the Tour Ġustizzja għal Artna made its second stop in Mellieħa Square. Together with Mellieħa residents, activists explained why the proposed planning laws will cause great harm to our country, while handing out mulled wine and the special "pudina fl-ippjanar".

The locality of Mellieħa has already suffered serious injustices at the hands of the land and planning authorities, who have acted in the interest of developers rather than the common good, such as the outrageous case of Mellieħa Heights.

Over the past two weeks, the Planning Authority also approved two five-storey buildings just a few steps away from the churches of Pietà and Żabbar; added another 13 storeys to the DB monster in Pembroke; and gave the go-ahead to a 13-storey tower by Joseph Portelli next to Xlendi Bay.

If the proposed planning laws are ever enacted, this so-called "planning authority" will be granted dictatorial powers. Moreover, the ability of local councils, organisations, and citizens to effectively appeal its decisions will be severely hindered, the activists said

The Tour Ġustizzja għal Artna will now take a short break for the Christmas holidays and will return with more visits to localities around Malta and Gozo in January. The first stop was in Birzebbuga last week.
