Valletta proved marginally superior to Sliema in a highly contested match and succeeded in writing a new chapter in their history by securing this commemorative trophy, organised to mark the 125th anniversary of the Malta Football Association. Two goals from Yuri Messias and an excellent free kick from Paiber delivered the Jubilee Cup to Valletta.
Sliema were the more aggressive side in the opening ten minutes, with a long-range effort from Steve Pisani after seven minutes of play.
They tried again from distance after twelve minutes, this time through a shot by Roko Prsa.
The most dangerous early action arrived after eighteen minutes when Andrea Zammit made a strong run into the box and struck low, forcing goalkeeper Rasheed Al Tumi into a very good save.
Two minutes later Valletta produced another promising action, this time through Brazilian forward Yuri Messias, who evaded two players in midfield, advanced towards the edge of the area, and attempted a shot that ultimately finished too high.
Valletta took the lead precisely at the half-hour mark through another piece of skill by Yuri Messias, who bypassed Jean Borg and Murillo on the edge of the box before finishing low for the first goal of the match.
Sliema were denied an opportunity to equalise in the thirty-fifth minute when Roko Prsa was brought down in the penalty area by Valletta's defenders. The Sliema coach requested VFS review. Referee Ishmael Barbara consulted the footage and concluded that it was not a penalty.
The first half ended 1-0 in favour of Valletta.
Valletta emerged dangerously in the second half, and after fifty-five minutes Andrea Zammit broke down the left, delivering a low cross to goalscorer Yuri Messias, who from close range directed the ball wide.
Roko Prsa attempted another low shot from outside the penalty area, causing difficulty for goalkeeper dos Santos, though the Brazilian saved well.
Sliema's efforts proved futile as Valletta doubled their advantage in the seventy-seventh minute from a well-taken penalty by Yuri Messias. The penalty was awarded despite Sliema coach Paul Zammit loudly calling for a second VFS review.
Valletta extended the scoreline with an outstanding free kick by captain Brandon Paiber, who struck from distance into the top left corner with precision.
Sliema managed to reduce the deficit through a late goal by Fernando, but it arrived too late to spark a comeback.
