Following the Planning Authority's (PA) approval of an additional 13 storeys on the DB monstrosity in Pembroke, Moviment Graffitti, together with residents, organisations, and local councils, will be seeking to appeal this shameful decision. However, this process entails legal and professional costs that we can only bear through public contributions.

For this reason, a crowdfunding campaign was launched with the goal of raising €7,000 to enable the NGO to undertake legal action against the PA's decision. The public can contribute by:

The DB story is one of government-sponsored, endless greed, Graffitti said. DB has already "profited enormously from public land, suffocated residents, damaged the natural environment, and buried historical buildings. Its project for a hotel and two towers next to thousands of Pembroke residents - living literally across the road - was approved by compromised authorities who ignored tens of thousands of public objections and the strong opposition of three local councils".

Now, before the originally approved 17- and 18-storey towers have even been built, they are set to rise to 23 and 25 floors respectively, Graffitti said. This recent Planning Authority decision makes a complete mockery of the planning process, rendering approved plans meaningless since they can always be intensified through piecemeal applications, it added.

Moreover, it is important to recall that the original permit was approved on the basis of a "plan" to construct a tunnel to facilitate the traffic the project would generate. We have since learned that this tunnel will not be built, the NGO said.

"We are confident that, with the public's support, we can once again fight greed and injustice to the very end," Graffitti said.
