A 20-year-old British man residing in Naxxar sustained serious injuries following a traffic accident that occurred on Friday evening in Lija, the police said Saturday.

Police were informed of the collision at around 7pm, after an accident was reported in Triq il-Mosta.

Initial investigations revealed that the incident involved a Volkswagen Golf driven by the 20-year-old man and a Hyundai i20 driven by a 39-year-old man from Luxembourg. A 41-year-old woman was also travelling as a passenger in the Hyundai.

The driver of the Volkswagen had to be extricated from his vehicle with the assistance of members of the Civil Protection Department and a medical team.

He was subsequently taken to hospital by ambulance, where he was later certified to be suffering from serious injuries.

Magistrate Dr Monica Borg Galea LL.D has been informed of the case and has opened an inquiry, while police investigations are ongoing.
