In the heart of Rabat, where stone whispers stories and light dances across centuries-old walls, the Wignacourt Museum will host Lwien u Suriet  - an evocative exhibition that invites us to rediscover Malta through the eyes of three artists whose work is steeped in belonging, beauty, and the rhythms of everyday life.

Curated by Mariella Pisani Bencini, a stalwart of Malta's cultural heritage, this exhibition is both a tribute and a homecoming. Mariella's curatorial voice is one of reverence and insight, shaped by her decades-long career as a television producer, presenter, author, and art historian. Her acclaimed programme Meander has, since 1994, chronicled the evolution of Maltese artistic expression, and her curatorial work continues to weave together threads of tradition and contemporary vision. With Lwien u Suriet, she brings together three distinct artistic temperaments in a harmonious celebration of place and identity.

The exhibition features the work of Victoria Agius, Lawrence Pavia, and Carmel Serracino - three artists whose styles differ in medium and mood, yet converge in their love for the Maltese islands.

Victoria Agius paints the sea as a living presence, its moods rendered in luminous oils and bold brushstrokes. Her palette sings with Mediterranean hues, capturing nature's timeless rhythms. A seasoned educator and art historian, Victoria's work reflects decades of artistic inquiry and emotional depth.

Lawrence Pavia reimagines the urban village landscape with geometric precision and symbolic resonance. Flights of steps lead to patron saints, tradition meets abstraction, and pop art influences mingle with architectural memory. Lawrence's journey from risk management to visual art is marked by curiosity, research, and a respect for the environment.

Carmel Serracino, a classicist and academic, brings a poetic sensibility to his watercolours. Executed in delicate strokes, his paintings evoke the salty air, the clip-clop of hooves on terrazzin, and the quiet nostalgia of streets where past and present coexist. Inspired by classical literature and film, Carmel's work is a gentle meditation on atmosphere and memory.

Together, these artists offer a multifaceted portrait of Malta - not as a postcard, but as a lived experience. Their works speak of sea and stone, of village steps and luminous skies, of heritage and emotion. Lwien u Suriet is not merely an exhibition - it is a love letter to the island, written in colour and form.
